The Czech Republic is particularly rich in history with more castles per square mile than any other country. Czech historic sites stretch back to the Old Stone Age and forward to the days of the Iron Curtain. Hussites Tour - Bohemia in the Middle Ages

13th - 20th September

Fascinated by the Middles Ages? This guided tour follows in the steps of Czech church  reformer Jan Hus and his warrior followers, visiting ruined castles,  museums and ancient towns, including the medieval town of Tabor, where  you will enjoy the annual Hussite Festival. Suited to people with an  interest in military history, religious history and medieval history  generally.

Historic South Bohemia Walks

2nd - 9th September

This tour combines some of the best of South Bohemia’s historic towns and sights, with lovely landscape and nature. In addition to sightseeing, the tour offers four optional walks: Around Trebon, Vyssi Brod abbey and the Vltava, the Golden Trail and Zlata Koruna abbey and Divci Kamen castle

Destinations For History Lovers

All towns in the Czech Republic will have something to offer the history lover, but the following are outstanding:

  • Cesky Krumlov - this UNESCO World Heritage Site with 300 listed buildings offers the perfect break. The town offers a series of cultural festivals, the most famous being The Festival of the Five-petal Rose.
  • Ceske Budejovice - fascinating city, an excellent base for exploring historic South Bohemia with a large historic town centre
  • Tabor - the medieval city built by the Hussites, filled with historic buildings and home of the medieval festival - the Tabor Meeting.
  • Brno - capital of Moravia, with churches, civic buildings and museums with fascinating collections
  • Litomysl - the UNESCO-listed renaissance chateau is just one attraction in this town famous for its Smetana Music Festival.
  • Trebic - home to Europe’s best preserved Jewish ghetto (UNESCO listed) and a UNESCO listed Romanesque
  • Jindrichuv Hradec - with its large Gothic castle, the National Museum of Photography, narrow-guage railway, this lovely town is a good base for exploring history packed Czech Canada
  • Kutna Hora - explore the spectacular St Barbara Cathedral, the Sedlac Ossuary, and the medieval silver mines
  • Znojmo - at the heart of the Moravian wine-growing industry, this hilltop town combines lots of history (including an incredible 12th century circular church) with gastronomy.
  • Trebon - the medieval town set in a historic landscape of man-made fishponds.
