Holidays in the Czech Republic

Austria, Germany, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia

Austria lies south of the Czech Republic. A trip to Austria is therefore best combined with a stay in either South Bohemia (especially Cesky Krumlov or Ceske Budejovice) or South Moravia
Linz and Vienna act both as interesting destinations in themselves and as useful interchanges for other places in the country.
The Danube flows from Passau, via Linz and on to Vienna and it is possible to sail, cycle or walk along the river.

Linz is Austria's third largest city and has its own airport with direct flights from the UK (Ryanair Stansted). Linz's proximity to the Czech Republic and South Bohemia in particular make it an excellent city for a 2-centre, 2-country break. Indeed travellers coming to Cesky Krumlov or Ceske Budejovice may find it more convenient to fly to Linz than Prague.

Linz stands on the Danube and visitors can catch boats from there to other towns along the river. Trains take the visitor to Vienna and the Salzkammergut. However Linz merits a stay in its own right. Its history dates back to the Romans. The city is a centre for contemporary art.
